Struggling to stay on top of the latest search trends? Then you must check out Exploding Topics.
Exploding Topics is a website created by Brian Dean and Josh Hawarth, with one goal in mind:
“Exploding Topics scours the internet to find exploding trends before they take off.”
According to Dean and Hawarth, here’s how it works: Their advanced technology analyzes millions of searches, conversations, and mentions across the internet, allowing their algorithm to identify surging search topics early.
Based on the data, each topic receives a growth classification: Regular, Exploding, or Peaked.
So which digital marketing topics are the next big things? Here are five “Exploding Topics” that we’re watching:
Even if you’re not familiar with the term “influencer marketing,” you’ve probably seen it in practice on social media platforms like Instagram or Twitter and not even realized it. Influencer marketing is a form of social media marketing in which a company recruits and uses “influencers”, generally individuals or organizations with massive followings on Twitter or Instagram, to market a product or service to their followers. Influencer marketing is essentially the celebrity endorsement of the digital age, and Instagram and Twitter are the new Hollywood.
One particularly interesting execution of influencer marketing occurred in 2020 with Michael Bloomberg’s Presidential Campaign. Bloomberg’s use of influencer marketing was particularly interesting because it was overtly political, and it involved the incorporation of memes.

No, we’re not talking about those cuddly bamboo eating bears. We’re talking about the open-source Python software library that allows users to import, manipulate, and analyze data. It works by using data structures and operations for manipulating numerical tables and time series. The name is actually derived from the term “panel data,” an econometrics term for data sets that include observations over multiple time periods for the same individuals. Pandas applications are endless and that’s why it’s used from industry giants like Apple, and JP Morgan to emerging tech start-ups like Instacart, and Doordash.

If you’re not already familiar, Zoom is a business-focused video conferencing software. They specialize in video meetings, webinars, digital conference rooms, and cross-platform messaging. While Zoom was already an emerging technology in the business world, the COVID-19 crisis certainly increased its prominence. Overnight, schools, college classes, and traditional businesses flocked to Zoom to fill the gap for their daily communication. Our team used Zoom to host our monthly all-staff meeting just recently, and based on our experience, it was clear to see why so many people were searching on this topic. Zoom’s interface is straightforward but does not lack innovative features, and the video and audio quality, even with 50+ participants, was impressive.
Interestingly enough the most fascinating adoption of Zoom has been its non-business uses. As Americans practiced socially distancing you saw the emergence of “video happy hours” with coworkers, “virtual hangouts” with families, and even “virtual parties” with your friends. Zoom is not just a business tool any more.
